Middle School Academics

The Episcopal School of Acadiana seeks to instill and develop the values of respect and responsibility within each Middle School student while challenging every child academically and honoring individual learning styles. Through personal attention in an intimate setting and with a "hands on” approach, ESA Middle School faculty, programs and curriculum allow for the uniqueness of each Middle School student, understanding and addressing their daily physical and emotional needs. Through encouragement, support and appropriate challenge, the learning environment is a healthy one in which students may take risks while being nurtured and given the proper foundation from which to spring. ESA Middle School students master not only the content of the curriculum, but they also acquire the necessary study and organizational skills to ensure success. By learning how to study and organize effectively, ESA students are able to make a smooth and effective transition into Upper School and can utilize these skills for life.
The development of the entire child is a key component of the Middle School experience. Through a diversity of physical activities, sports programs and enrichment offerings, ESA students have numerous opportunities to participate in a myriad of activities, developing leadership skills and learning the value of teamwork and collaboration. Students gain a greater understanding of their community through service projects and volunteer programs and with the foundation of Episcopal traditions, have the opportunity to discover a personal relationship with God. Students share meaningful experiences weekly in our chapel services and through the daily activities of ESA life.
Through our advisory program, every student works closely in a small group setting with an advisor each week and has many opportunities to engage in formal and informal activities emphasizing teamwork and developing interpersonal skills. Advisors serve as a mentor and faculty liaison for both the student and family and this relationship is a crucial component of the academic, social and emotional development of the ESA student. The advisor is a "friendly face” who provides support, encouragement and direct communication to the family and student while helping the Middle Schooler make a smooth transition into adolescence.
Ultimately, ESA Middle School students are persons of character who strive for excellence in all phases of life. With a commitment to the whole development of the student and with appropriate challenge, ESA offers a truly unique Middle School experience.
