Tates/Tutwiler Endowment Fund
Now is the time for ESA alumni to help Mr. Tutwiler go even further! We are excited that three members of the Class of 1986 - Clint Freeland, Jody Kochansky, and Will McKinnon - have issued a Matching Gift Challenge for the Tates/Tutwiler Endowment Fund to all ESA alumni. This group will match up to $30,000 in gifts (up to $1,000 per individual gift) per year for the next three years.

Mr. Tutwiler traced his routes around the United States visiting ESA alumni on behalf of the Tates/Tutwiler Endowment Fund. Though he originally planned to make the trips on his bicycle, Tut instead relied on a combination of car, plane, Outing Club Bus, train, subway, canoe, and his own two feet.
At the Class of 2013's graduation, the ESA Board of Trustees presented the Trustee Award to David Tate, Anne Tate, and Cabell Tutwiler. It was an emotional moment for the three of them as they stood on the stage and heard the citations written to honor their ESA legacies. Click here to read the complete speech.
Over the years, Dr. and Mrs. Tate, Mr. Tutwiler, and others have contributed to ESA's financial aid fund in order to support worthy students who otherwise could not have afforded to attend ESA. The alumni of ESA, along with the Tates and Mr. Tutwiler, have created a permanent means of support for financial aid through the Tates/Tutwiler Endowment Fund. The interest earned each year will be used to fund scholarships for more students, while the principal will remain and continue to grow far into the future.
"For some families, affording ESA
can be like trying to put socks on
a rooster." - Dr. David Tate
"The stage is set. What role will
you play in supporting ESA?"
- Mrs. Anne Tate
"Whan that aprill with his shoures soote,
the droghte of march hath perced to the roote,
ESA awards financial aid. Help us give more
students the benefits of an ESA education."
- Mr. Cabell Tutwiler
