Lower School Mission Statement

The mission of ESA’s Lower School Library is to support the school’s curriculum and reading initiatives. The library seeks to nurture our students’ development as competent and ethical users of information with strong intellectual curiosity and a life-long love of reading.

About the Library

All students, Prek-3 through fifth grade, are scheduled for weekly library classes. In addition to read alouds and book talks, students receive instruction in basic library and research skills. Students begin checking out their own books in Kindergarten, and we allow them the freedom to select books which reflect their passion to learn about the world, but we also guide them to choose pleasure reading books which will build their confidence and strengthen their comprehension.

Upper School Mission Statement

The mission of the library is to support fully the instructional and research programs of ESA through the provision of information services and access to printed materials, multi-media, and electronic resources.

About the Library

The Library is centrally situated on the Cade Campus of the Episcopal School of Acadiana. The Library’s 8000 bound volumes are available to students, faculty, staff, and other members of the ESA community. The collection can be reached online through the ESA website.

Upper School Library

The Library provides computer access to a variety of licensed electronic resources, including Britannica Online, World Book Encyclopedia, and Grove Art Online. Also available are the Bayou State Periodicals, the Louisiana Library Collection Database, and JSTOR, a database containing thousands of articles from professional and academic journals. Students can also access the catalogs of area parish libraries using their ESA library card numbers. In addition, students have access to a generous inter-library loan arrangement with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
