Coach Laura Magann

Cross Country Coach Laura Magann (left, with assistant coach Jennifer Graycheck, '01) arrived at ESA in 2012, and quickly began creating the foundation for success. A native of Jamaica, she was one of the founders of the Tri-City Track Club in Morgan City, and served as president and coach until her move to Lafayette.

Coach Laura was nominated Road Runner’s Club of America (RRCA) Female Runner of the Year in 2008. An RRCA Certified Distance Coach, she lives by the mantra “Keep Moving!” which has gotten her to the finish line of seven marathons. At the Louisiana Track and Field Coaches Association Conference in Baton Rouge in 2015, Coach Laura was recognized for leading the top Class B boys and girls cross country teams in the state. In 2020, she was selected by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association as the Girls' High School Cross Country Coach of the Year for the state of Louisiana.

"What I got when I came here was a group of kids who knew the meaning of scholarship and honor. It was very easy to develop a philosophy for the distance program that they would embrace. Consistent hard work, with recovery and a lot of fun was a quick sell. It's like a great business partnership!"
