Middle School Youth Legislature
This week, ESA middle schoolers attended Youth Legislature, a program that introduces students to the legislative process. In a two-day mock legislative session at the Old Capitol in Baton Rouge, participants elected government officials, and sponsored, debated, and voted on bills they drafted. The coastal restoration bill put together by Lucy John, Lily Ouellet, and Allison Aucoin was signed into law by the governor. Charles Blem served in the governor's cabinet, and Harrison Hugonin served as senate chaplain. The students shown above were all selected for the Hall of Fame for participation and presentation.
