Our Chaplain's Ordination

Chaplain Dr. Andrew Armond will celebrate his ordination to the Sacred Order of Deacons on December 14th at 11:00am at St. James Episcopal Church in Alexandria. Dr. Armond will be ordained as a transitional deacon. All deacons are clergy in the Church, meaning that they play a specific role within the life of the Church and are under Holy Orders. But there are two types of deacons. Vocational (or perpetual) deacons are ordained to that ministry and serve as deacons throughout their vocational lives. Transitional deacons are ordained as a further step toward the priesthood. They serve in the deacon’s role for six months to one year and then are ordained as priests. Dr. Armond will be ordained as a transitional deacon in December and as a priest at some point in 2020.
