Welcoming a Guest
Teacher Rosalind Garrett's former student and godchild, Sergeant DaShaunté Calligan, visited with fourth-grade students Friday. After spending time with them at lunch and recess, he spoke to the students about his nearly ten-year career in the U.S. Army, his family, and growing up in New Iberia, where he says Ms. Roz taught him life lessons and supported him through a challenging childhood. Today, Sergeant Calligan lives and works in Washington, DC, where he helps to fill open positions with army units around the world. Some of the lessons he shared: remain humble and respectful to your elders and those around you, never give up on your dreams, and believe in yourself. Thanks to Ms. Roz for introducing Sergeant Calligan to ESA students!
