Boat Launch

Members of the Class of 2026 have joined more than twenty years of ESA students who have tested their design skills at Spanish Lake! The goal of the project is to build a boat of corrugated cardboard large enough to carry at least one passenger, to predict the draft when loaded according to Archimedes’ Principle, to successfully paddle the boat through a course at Spanish Lake, and to pick up a floating pumpkin and return it to shore. Students have been working in groups of two or three to complete the project using a cardboard appliance box, caulk, duct tape, plastic ties and paint. This year, a three-passenger boat successfully navigated the course! Scott Clause with The Advertiser has already posted a gallery of photos from the launch. Find it here.
