Pi Day Feats

Fifth grader Emersen set a new lower school record for reciting digits of pi. He recited 230 digits in Chinese! View a video on Facebook or Instagram. Emersen and his classmates, fifth graders who take sixth-grade math, continued their studies this week by using Buffon’s method of approximating pi by dropping needles on a grid of parallel lines and calculating the probability that the needles will cross the lines.

On Pi Day in Cade, students took part in the last Ala-La-Miss competition of the year. After attempting the six-problem challenge, each student had a choice of apple or chocolate chip pie, courtesy of Pi Day sponsor Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop!
