Juniors Explore Louisiana History and Culture

The Junior class took a curricular trip to New Orleans. Students visited the Laura Plantation, the site of the 1811 Slave Revolt, the Los Islenos Community, Congo Square, and the Old Mint Building. They also visited with several local scholars, including French scholar and activist Joseph Dunn, met a local Mardi Gras Indian Queen, and spoke with a representative of the local Choctaw tribe. The goal of the trip was to introduce students to the wealth of different communities and identities in Louisiana and to tie into their U.S. History and American Literature classes.
