Lower Schoolers Learn Digital Citizenship

Students in grades 3-5 applied lessons in digital citizenship by assessing the "digital footprints" of fictitious individuals. After analyzing a subject's comments, location tags, and websites visited, students attempted to infer the subject's gender, age, location, interests, and personality traits. Technology instructor Amber Barfield emphasized to students the importance of considering the potential for unintended consequences of their online actions. "Students need to understand that a person's online profile influences how others perceive them," said Ms. Amber, "and they need to know how to evaluate profiles of others."
