ESA Students Honored with Rotary Award

Seniors Abby Langford and Mark Dibbs were awarded the Rotary Outstanding Senior Award this week.

Abby Langford is the daughter of Warren Langford of New Iberia. Her list of accomplishments includes: seven consecutive semesters on the Headmasters list; captain of our three-peat State Champion cross-country team and an All-State runner; founder and president of our Garden Club; winner of the Harvard Book Award; President of the Student Body; AP Scholar with Distinction; and National Merit Scholar, all while taking the most rigorous curriculum offered in each of ESA’s departments. As a sophomore, her essay “Questions on Christology” was published in the prestigious Concord Review.  “Abby inspires others to not only think beyond themselves but make a difference in the lives of others. She has the gift of being able to motivate others and the integrity to motivate them in a direction that will benefit the greater community,” says Academic Dean Scott Chrysler.

Mark Dibbs is the son of Michael and Maria Dibbs of Lafayette. Mark’s achievements include: seven consecutive semesters on the Headmasters list; senior leader on ESA’s basketball team; founder and president of the Community Service Club; President of the Math Club; winner of the Tulane Book Award for his service to the school; President of our Honor Council; AP Scholar with Distinction; and National Merit Scholar, all while taking the most rigorous curriculum offered in each of our departments. For the past 18 months, Markl has been helping a UL-Lafayette research team examine the impact of recent oil spills in the Gulf on the population of sperm whales, beaked whales, and bottle nose dolphins. His resulting paper, “Density Dependent Sperm Whale Model: Evaluating the Stability or Fragility of Worldwide Sperm Whale Populations,” was conditionally accepted for publication by the Journal of Emerging Investigators last September.

Congratulations, Abby and Mark!
