Second grade art students began work on self portraits this week. As art teacher Claire Caffery explains, "One function of art is to offer a mirror to your life or story. To explore this idea, students worked on mixed media, expressive self portraits. They viewed a variety of contemporary self portrait artists at work for inspiration. Seeing the process, not just the finished piece, encourages our young artists to work through 'oops,' develop layers, and use creative problem solving."
