Marine Immersion

Sophomores traveled to the Dauphin Island Sea Lab for three days of field research and exploration in the Mobile Bay estuary. Biology teacher Summer Slater and the DISL staff worked with the students to collect and identify fish, shrimp, squid, and mollusks in both the marsh and the bay. In the classroom, the students practiced using dichotomous keys, then made their own to help in identifying specimens. Time in the estuarium, on the beach, and at a nearby fort to watch the sunrise rounded out this learning adventure, an ESA tradition since the school's early years. Watch this week's Fly on the Wall video for an inside view of the trip.
