Deb Cochran, LS Math

Deb Cochran joined the founding staff of the ESA Lower School in 2004. An experienced educator, after earning a B.A. from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette in 1989, Ms. Deb taught 3rd-5th grade in the Lafayette Parish public school system. She received a Master's degree in 1995, and moved into gifted education. In 1997, she earned her +30 degree in Curriculum and Supervision. At Confratute, a two-week teacher training institute on gifted pedagogy held at the University of Connecticut, she became interested in origami, an art form she uses as a teaching tool and a love she shares with her fifth graders each year. Ms. Deb was nominated for a Lafayette Education Foundation Teacher Award in 2010 and 2015. In addition to teaching and leading, she coaches the Math Olympiad team.

I think of myself as a coach. I am constantly encouraging my students to do their best and to be the best they can be. The only way you can see what a child is made of is to push them to their potential.
