This course introduces students to problem solving using technology as a tool and a resource for thinking, studying, and working. The sixth grade students take the course during the first quarter to ensure quick emergence into our network and all the technology and software ESA has to offer. Computer skills are acquired through hands-on projects. Sixth grade students at ESA grow into independent computer learners striving to using technology to gather, organize, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information and ideas.
This quarter-long course is an introduction to computer programming. In this course, students will learn basic computer science concepts by creating a dynamic website using modern web technologies. Students will learn how to create web page content with HTML, style that content with CSS, and add interactive elements to that content with JavaScript. Students will leave the course with a general understanding of how computer programs work and, more specifically, how programs can produce interactive web pages.
