Several of our Lower School classes are nearly full.
We recommend submitting your application as soon as possible to be considered for the next school year. APPLY ONLINE
ESA Lower School offers an experience like no other. Our youngest students encounter science, art, music and the wonder of learning. The foundational skills our students learn as they pursue their interests prepare them for any challenges they face.
If you'd prefer to apply using a paper application, please complete the Application for Admission and return it to ESA with the $50 application fee.
Provide ESA with the following documents as relevant:
Academic transcripts
Report card for past two years
Copies of all prior testing and assessments, including developmental readiness, aptitude and achievement testing
Teacher Recommendations from current teacher(s) or caregiver
Any additional information you think would be useful in evaluating your child (for example: writing sample, art portfolio, or special project completed by your child).
Screening
Once you have submitted your Application for Admission either by mail or online, along with the required documentation, your child is ready for the screening. Admissions screening is administered by appointment only to students who have applied for admission.
Screening for our younger students happens in one of two ways depending on the time of year when you apply.
screening for those applying to PK3 and PK4 before February
screening for those applying to PK3 and PK4 after February
In January, we host two Saturday morning screening sessions during which you and your child will join us at school. During the screening, the children visit in a classroom with eight to ten other preschoolers. They will have the opportunity to interact with the teachers and children, and to play in a variety of learning centers as the teachers assess their motor development, language acquisition and social skills. Through this screening, we determine school readiness required for your child’s success in preschool at ESA.
While your child is busy in the classroom, you will be with the Admissions Director viewing a presentation about ESA. After the presentation, you will have the opportunity to ask questions.
If you apply after January, your child will join us at school in the morning and participate in a few activities with the Admissions Director. Before arriving, your child will receive a personalized email (sent to your email address) or a letter welcoming your child and also explaining what will take place during the day. Your child will have the opportunity to visit in the classroom with age-appropriate students. PK3 children go home at 11:00 a.m., PK4 at 1:00pm, and Kindergarten children at 2:00 p.m. After the Admissions Committee reviews the information in your child’s admission folder, you will be contacted to discuss the results of the screening.
Once you have submitted your Application for Admission either by mail or online, along with the requested information, your child is ready for the screening. Admissions testing is administered by appointment only to students who have applied for admission.
ESA understands the importance of taking the whole child into consideration during the admissions process. For that reason, we invite your child to spend a day with us at school. We want to make sure your child feels relaxed and comfortable with the visit. We will send your child a personalized email (sent to your email address) welcoming him or her and explaining what will take place during the day. We will assign a “buddy” to help each visitor navigate the school day. Your child participates in testing and, depending on age, may take the Otis Lennon, which is a standardized test. Also, your child will complete a writing sample and a creativity assessment. After the Admissions Committee reviews the information in your child’s folder, we will contact you to discuss the results of the screening.
