About Us

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

ESA commits to honor the dignity and experience of every human being, creating and maintaining a positive environment where the academic and social well-being of all students is affirmed. This commitment is founded in the Episcopal tradition of respect for and empowerment of all individuals; and we reaffirm, in accordance with the Episcopal Church, that all are welcome in our community, regardless of race, religion, national origin, disability, background, socioeconomic status, gender or sexual identity. It is the mission of ESA to actively support the creation of an inclusive environment in which each individual feels valued as a member of our community.

As part of our mission to develop students “intellectually, spiritually, and physically,” we recognize a commitment to inclusivity as a fundamental human value. By providing a learning environment that includes a wide variety of viewpoints consistent with the school’s mission, our aim is for our students to leave ESA as responsible global citizens. We recognize the ways in which all members of our community are enriched and strengthened when these principles are embraced; and, therefore, support diversity as an essential component of a quality education.

Dialogue, not monologue, fosters learning. The process of education involves give and take, concession and compromise, argument and debate: all products of the rich interchange which takes place when people of differing backgrounds and varied points of view come together and honor one another. Accordingly, Episcopal schools seek to thoughtfully balance their core identity as Christian institutions with an open and genuine hospitality that welcomes many voices and perspectives.
