Mrs. Emily Lyles

I want to foster a community of readers who talk about and recommend books to one another, and to help children love reading and be on track to being lifelong readers.

When Lower School Head Kathleen O’Shaughnessy showed Emily Lyles the Lafayette Campus for the first time, Emily was thrilled to see the library at the center of the school. “I was looking for a place where the library was valued,” she says. ESA was clearly a match, not just because of the library’s physical location, but its presence in the curriculum as well. As Lower School Librarian, Emily sees every student in PK3 through 5th grade for an hour each week.

“I want the library to be a place where they have fun and take ownership of their learning,” Emily says. Along with a master’s in library and information science from LSU and years of teaching and librarian experience, Emily brought her own love of reading to ESA when she became librarian in 2017. Some of her favorite reads: Katherine Applegate’s The One and Only Ivan, and anything by Beverly Cleary.
