Coastal Roots
Eighth graders planted 230 bald cypress trees on Avery Island Monday as part of LSU's Coastal Roots program, which involves students in habitat restoration. An ESA middle school service learning tradition, eighth graders plant seedlings in a coastal habitat restoration project, then establish a new crop of native plant seedlings in an on-campus nursery. Next year's eighth graders will plant the seedlings at a coastal restoration site before adding more seedlings to the nursery to continue the cycle.
