Three Cs

In third-grade science, students spend two quarters in the lab in the Enrichment Center. It's their first time having science class in the lab, and teacher Beverly Burgin begins by teaching them how to behave appropriately in the new setting. Students are introduced to the 3 Cs: communicate, concentrate, and collaborate, which help guide them when working in lab groups, and they practice by working through several cup challenges with a focus on excelling in the 3 Cs. As the quarter progresses, they'll learn to form hypotheses, make solid scientific observations, and interpret results as they explore the branches of physical science (forces, motion, and magnets), Earth and space science (weather, climate, and space), and life science (fossils, life cycles, heredity, survival, and selection).
