Seventh Graders Collaborate with UL-Lafayette PhD Candidates

Five Ph.D. candidates from the UL-Lafayette Biology department visited seventh grade science classes this week to discuss types of adaptations in the plant kingdom. The UL students tied the ESA classes' recent discussions of heredity into how plants survive in nature. Seventh graders were taught how to use line transects and quadrant sampling to study plant biodiversity. At the end of the lesson, ESA students were surprised to receive their personalized styrofoam cups that were part of the recent marine research expedition in the Gulf of Mexico. The cups were taken to 1,000 meters where they were affected by the pressure. The students were excited to see the changes that occurred. Thank you to UL-Lafayette students and faculty for continuing to connect with ESA science students!
