Lyla O'Niell, '27

Lyla O’Niell, ’27, started her ESA career in PK3. A peer leader, she’s also involved in the Med Sciences Club, Empowerment Through Education, Louisiana Youth Seminar, and ESA Tennis. She says ESA is a unique school because of all of the freedoms and friendships she has made throughout her  years here.

Here’s our Q&A with Lyla:

Who or what has inspired you as a learner?

The Academic Support teachers because they have always pushed me to keep moving forward and just are such a positive light.

What has been your most challenging moment at ESA?

My most challenging moment at ESA would have been freshman year, but having peer leadership with the seniors and juniors along with my teachers helped me pull through to the end.

If you had a month to study anything in the world, what would you be passionate about learning?

I would study marine biology because during sophomore year we go to Dauphin Island and study marine life. This school trip was very interesting, and it would be cool to understand more about marine life because a lot of the ocean is still unknown.

Is there anything you’d like to share with the community about your ESA experience?

One of my favorite parts of ESA is the peer leadership program. Getting to high school can be a bit scary, but having like "older siblings" made high school a lot more fun. Being able to be a part of this program is an amazing experience while getting to know the freshman and helping them start their high school years with a positive outlook.

Thanks, Lyla!
